Why Donate?

Your donation to the Springfield-Greene County Library is a lasting, far-reaching gift to your community. The Library brings information and culture within everyone’s reach, creating a more informed, engaged community. And, your donation to The Library Foundation reaches generations. We fund programs to prepare children for their first year of school and to bring reading materials to the elderly and homebound. In between, we provide resources to young professionals, programming that keeps teenagers reading and support for databases that allow anyone in the community explore their history. We are a vital element of a vibrant community, and your donation makes us possible.

Tribute Gifts

The Library Foundation’s Tribute Program is a meaningful way to honor, thank or remember someone in your life, or to commemorate a special event. The Tribute Program allows us to purchase thousands of books and support hundreds of community outreach programs every year. Individuals, groups and companies are welcome to make donations to the Tribute Program. We recognize your gift with a customized bookplate in a Springfield-Greene County Library book and in Library Foundation publications. We offer two options for those who would like to make a Tribute Program gift.  Donate today >

One-Time Tributes

For every $25 donation, we place a bookplate inscribed with the donor’s name and person or event they would like to commemorate inside of the front cover of a hardcover book.

Enduring Tributes

A gift of $250 or more goes to the purchase of a book each year for 10 years. We recognize these exceptional gifts by placing a bookplate inscribed with your special message in a book each year.

For both types of tribute gifts, we will send a card acknowledging your contribution and a sample of your bookplate to your honoree. As a donor, you will receive an official acknowledgement from The Library Foundation for tax purposes.

Planned Giving

By making a charitable bequest to The Library Foundation, you have a monumental impact on the future of the Library, and, of course, on future generations of Springfield-Greene County residents. Consider making a gift of cash or stock in your will or designate us as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, IRA or insurance policy.

As a planned donor, you may wish to dedicate your donation to one of the following Library Foundation funds:

The ReNEW Brentwood Capital Campaign: With a goal of $2.5 million, the campaign funds will help renovate the much-loved but outdated  Brentwood Branch Library.

The Foundation Fund: Also known as The Book Endowment, this fund ensures that the Springfield-Greene County Library collections are current and complete.

The Cultural Arts Fund: This fund supports myriad cultural and educational initiatives that promote life-long learning.

The Annie Busch Fund for Early Literacy: Gifts to this fund, named to honor former library director Annie Busch, support early literacy and school readiness programs.

The Friends of the Springfield-Greene County Library District Endowment Fund: This fund pays tribute to the dedication of The Friends of the Library, and stocks library shelves.

While we always gladly accept donations for these funds, many find that making a gift in their will or estate plan is the easiest way to make a significant contribution.

You can also establish a Named Endowment with a contribution or bequest of $10,000. Named endowments are a wonderful way to create a legacy and support your favorite library branch or programs.
