We Won! $4,500 CFO Video Challenge Grant to Fund Books for Kids in Summer Reading to Go

Community Foundation of the Ozarks announced the Library’s Summer Reading to Go project as the Springfield winner of the $4,500 grant at their June 20 45th Anniversary Donor Dinner.

The grant will reward preschoolers-teens in under-resourced neighborhoods with a free book in June and July for participating.

The program is one of the most important outreach efforts of the Library, and it’s grown over the years. “This summer we’re seeing over 5,000 kids, teens and adults at over 100 locations,” said Allison Eckhardt, the Outreach Services manager who coordinates the To-Go program. Staff visit day cares, preschools, after-school programs, day camps at Salvation Army and The Fairbanks, Boys & Girls Clubs and first-graders at all Title I summer schools. They also visit family programs at Northwest Project sites.
